Half of the tour

July 2nd, 2008

It’s the half of my tour in India. I am working about 10-12h a day including Saturdays. It’s hard to get anything done when getting parts or solutions from suppliers takes at least a week.

Biggest challenge for our business is actually the quality of Internet networks in India and international connections. We have outage at least one ever couple of days. International connections from India are also really bad, big latency and congestion.

I’ve recorded a long video ( about 20m ) from my daily commute from the Guest House which I’m staying at to my office. Enjoy the views.

Smart phones

November 4th, 2007

I am about to change my E61 for something new. I am looking for something what will not be only new but will has more features as well.

So far I have found that :

Palm is thinking that Europe loves only Windows Mobile - I don’t! The two of the latest Treos are not showing in EU - these are 755p and Centro. HEY! I want one of these ( actually two! )

Nokia: E61i would be on my list but it does not feature A2DP what is stupid! E90 has all the features I desire, plus it has a [tab] key on internal keyboard! That is cool,  if you are going to use it for SSH like I have to.  Problem with E90 is price…. probably way over my limit will see when buying time will come.

Sony-Ericsson  has a new P1i which honestly is at the top of my list, it has all what I am looking for and a bonus - Jog-Dial which I alway wished to have in a handheld.

Others ? They are doing Windows Mobile only what makes it not for me.

Maybe you know some gear which has a querty keyboard, wifi/bluetooth(2), voip, 3G, no windows mobile?

New Place

October 22nd, 2007

About two weeks ago I have moved to a new place. One bedroom flat, no flatmates ! Perfect.

Got my phone line sorted in 3 days, just a reconnection no installation fees. ADSL was 4 days later on the line, thanks to really good support from my ISP the AAISP. After a few days I realised that I can download faster than 2Mbps … little poking around tells me that ADSL synchronized at 7.8Mbps! but BT gave me 2Mbps profile. Simple email to AAISP, next working day I have my 8Mbps allocated. Really like that kind of service, no fuss with script reading clueless bots.

Today done final installation of network cabling … my thumbnail hurts. Couldn’t hide them well so I have used white cables … just forgot that I have ordered 50 feet … not 25 feet long ones  and now I have a lot of slack.

Oh mate, it is so relaxing and cool without all these flatmates.

Last month

July 21st, 2007

This is busy period, I am working my ass out and I have not much time for my self.

At least I have manage to get a break mid July and I have uploaded some pictures to my, today fixed, gallery

When I was on holiday, my broadband supplier ( Black Cat Networks ) has been taken over and my superb service will be disrupted as a new company will not provide IPv6 which I rely on. I have subscribed with with AAISP they have strange bandwidth limits … 8-18 workdays … but during that time I am at the office, so not a big problem.

Monitoring your systems

May 12th, 2007

If you ever heard about monitoring systems it was usually some expensive closed source software or the open source package. I have little experience with the first type.

For some thoughts about the second type, read more

Finally my own Internet Connection

February 11th, 2007

After weeks without proper Internet connection at home I got it and I went for the best!

I have Black Cat Networks ADSL line, more expensive that this cheap no customer service consumer broadbands. But it has everything what you can imagine. Static IPv4, own subnet in IPv4 if you wish and my favorite IP , the IPv6!!!!  And on top of that there is Kind, Fast and Clueful customer support.

Hope this will stay like that :)

Welcome to 11111010111

January 24th, 2007

Load of changes to my world after I came back from my Xmax/New Years break.

Mainly at work, where I was welcomed with sad news. And since then I was working hard and preparing and preparing…

My Internet connection is patchy at home, the only way to get to the Internet is thru my office or my E61 ( hurray! ).

When I will have some permament connection at home, expect updates…

Nokia E61

December 15th, 2006

Recently I bought a Nokia E61 with contract from T-Mobile. Contract is a specific one, gives you unlimited(except you can’t use it with a laptop or to make VoIP calls ) access to the Internet from your phone. I love this bundle, really nice device ( I don’t even miss touch screen ) and total freedom of the Internet access.

I own a few mobile gadgets , Casio BE300, Palm Tungsten C, Nokia 770, Abacus Palm Wrist PDA and non of them is not as flexible and didn’t satisfy my needs to the extend which e61 does.

Finally I have access to my email wherever I am, I have always up to date currency conversion tool, weather forecasts, news… all the things that were promised with previous devices are now finally working!  The other thing is software selection, much real life than 770, but not as good as Palm, still enough.

E61 does not sport touch screen …. as I all my previous gadgets are touchable … I really don’t miss it. Interface design is brilliant! E61 also made me realize that I was really missing thumb qwerty keyboard, TC and E61 both sport it.

Time to pickup some Symbian knowledge … as I know almost nothing about that OS … I’ve notice that it has IPv6 support so I might even love it ;)

Fishing routers

November 10th, 2006

Since I have implemented IPv6 in my network, I am suffering from lack of Ethernet - Ethernet router which can do IPv6. It means that my laptop has to stay wired to external/border router and my sharp server is not yet available over IPv6.

I am fishing on Ebay for any IPv6 capable router, my bad, I know only about Cisco 8[3,5,7]1 routers which are also in price range acceptable for me. Maybe you know about any other ? does not have to be Cisco ( however I prefer ) and does not have to be new.

BB eclipse to cat and city of many

September 25th, 2006

My ISP is driving me crazy … There was a 5 min power outage in Telehouse on Sunday afternoon , and they did not have my connection working properly until today late afternoon … crap I’m starting to contemplate if I should request a change to Black Cat for ( I hope ) better service ( Pricey ) but with native IPv6 ( yeah! ) .
Over the weekend watched City of Men, series based on very good movie City of God … both really nice and original.
