Quake Arena in your web browser

July 7th, 2009 Comments off

Arena Live is sooo much better than Quake Live

It’s amazing , a while back we heard about Quake Live.  A game, a Quake which you can play for free online. It had a few glitches , hanged a few times, works only on Windows. Still it was some fun.

Now, as we know, id software has opensources the Q3 engine. So why not create an Open Source equivalent to proprietary Quake Live.

I think, this is how Arena Live came to life.

Arena Live is free, open source and very much playable( even if they say it’s in Alpha stage). What really got my attention is the main platform for it’s development.  Not Windows, not Mac (they will come later), but Linux is the first one with a working client available.

Second thing what surprised me is that it’s IPv6 enabled – It’s the first game I ever played over IPv6.

All you oldschool Quake fans, join the game and we may even have a match.

Civony

April 18th, 2009 8 comments

Recently while looking at one of ads on my site I’ve noticed that there is a new online game Civony.

I’ve signed up a few days ago and I’m still expanding my lands. What is a good sign that game can be entertaining.

Good thing about it is that it’s real time so you don’t have to be logged in all the time to play. If things like research or building take hours , just close the site and do your own thing, then when you return it will be all done.

If you have 15m a day to play I highly recommend it … so far…

Reading some news on a Linux version of Americas Army 2.5 lead me to the AA website.

It looks like they are prepping some completely new engine for 2009 release of AA 3, more at Americas Army 3 News site.

It’s the favorite game for me, can’t wait to test!

Mouse Razer DeathAdder

April 16th, 2008 Comments off

After replacing damned dell keyboard with something usable, I had real urge to replace the mouse as well. I’ve got used to Logitech Marble Trackball and MX900 mouse ergonomic designs, so  standard mouse was actually putting a lot of pain in my wrist.

It looks like symmetric mice just don’t work with my wrist any more.

As I like to play a good game from time to time, I have started to look for some nice gaming mouse. “Once goats death(die) ” I had a look at Logitech G9 and G5 – they didn’t really convinced me. Brief look at Microsoft range, caught my eye on the mouse which they made in cooperation with Razer, it was really good on my wrist but kind of old now.

I have decided that I want a Razer mouse. At that point I was really struggling. There was no shop on Tottenham Court Road which had any Razers. I had to decide with knowledge based on reviews read on the Internet. DAMN! For some time I was convinced that Lachesis would be the best mouse for me. But reading reviews pushed me away, it was apparently a very good high spec mouse, but unfortunately – symmetric design. So I had to resort to a lower model and DeathAdder started to grow on me.

Now I just love that mouse. It’s great performance, slides like on butter. Fits my palm perfectly, no strain on my wrist. Even side buttons just work! under Gnome and FIrefox. This is brilliant, as I have previously spent hours to get MX900 up with all its buttons.

Oh and I thought that the lights on the mouse are going to be annoying. Fortunately, they are not. Maybe because I have the Guild Wars edition, which has orange instead of blue lights, this is acceptable.

back to Americas Army and some CIsco ASA install

March 25th, 2008 Comments off

I’ve spent most of the long weekend playing games and working.

Finally, after around 4 years of having the AA Account ( AAA :) I’ve finished Special Forces training! This gave me access to some neat weaponry in the game. Also unlocked SF exclusive deployments. Most of the time i was playing SF Hospital, but now SF Snakeplains is my favourite. The only training which I didn’t finish is for becoming a Medic.

I have also lost about 1.5 days over the weekend replacing old Monowall FIrewall with a state of art CIsco ASA 5510 Security Plus. I have some suspicion that current SysOp has a bug in regard to Port Speed. When, you boot the box, ports, which are connected to gigabit start, to glow orange, as they should to indicate 1Gbps connection, but after the system has finished booting, they are back to green, telling me that they are 100Mbps. After disconnecting and connecting back the cables, they are back to orange .. 1Gbps.

Oh, also replacing the firewall and extended period of time of dis-connectivity caused Windows 2003 DNS server on AD controller to crash in a way that it wasn’t serving any queries any more… that is MS for you.

Last few days

May 23rd, 2006 Comments off

I have had a bad Saturday, due to food poisoning. I was sleeping for whole day on sat.

Sunday, with just uncomfy feeling I’ve spent day on shopping ( just food – sometimes happens ) and watching movies.

Tried to watch Oliver Twist, but it did not keep me for long. Then I’ve seen great movie by S. Spielberg Munich, really, really nice movie. But after that I placed a DVD with Crash in to my player… and this movie just made my day night. Amazing, if world is so freaked out as presented in this movie… it is just stunning.

Metal Gear , Metal Gear, I have forgot how great fun card game can be…. Before starting with movies on Sunday, I have spent few hours playing my AC!D 2 … After finished with game … I have realized that I am still thinking in turns… weird stuff.
