iPad flying and visibility

iPad is a great device for flying, however it has one big mishap for cockpit use.  The shiny screen which attracts sun so well that unless properly placed in the cockpit you can see nothing!

iPad and Flying in Europe

For my Euro Trip which I have planned with Ivan Horsky I’ve decided to purchase an iPad 2 to help us with planning and flight tracking. The original idea was that we are going to fly around europe in a PA28 which has just a single GNS430 and having a second GPS/Moving Map device would [...]

Long Stay at Hahn and G-OCCK in pieces

After 3 days of waiting we had an engineer come over from Bournemouth to fix the plane. Even when there is Diamond Industries HQ 100km away, the maintenance company wasted 3 days of our life and didn’t get us anywhere. The engineer started work minutes after arrival 10am . First he took off the avionics [...]

EFATO in Hahn

For this flight I’m the PIC, after embarkation, started pre start check list. I’ve decided that maybe I will ask ATC for engine start before starting it. Avionics on, Tower set and for some reason I’ve managed to request a flight to Bautzen instead of engine start , got “taxi Delta” … me “request engine [...]

Welcome to Hahn

After parking and disembarking the aircraft a fuel truck arrived. Oh, we didn’t plan fuel requirement yet, fortunately, the driver didn’t had card terminal what gave me a few minutes to make an estimate plus reserve and it looked like we need 13 US gallons. Unfortunately his truck works in litters. Quick dash at my [...]

FR 8547 Ryanair

Just came off a flight from Berlin to London On approach to STN, sudden go around; climb, flaps, slats, landing light do not go out after prolonged climb, me thinks, hm… Something wrong, captain comes on PA, flap failure… I can see some fluid dumping from the wing, initially – thought that it’s jet-a new [...]

Bournemouth to Hahn

This was it. We entered the aircraft, settle down. Proper passenger briefing and some captains brief. Ivan decided he will handle flying and radios, I was to help with navigation and radio pre selection.

Monday morning

Early start on monday, I did Center of Gravity calculations , Ivan filed General Aviation reports to Police, twice. Onece to Devon… Mistake and proper one to Dorset. We agreed on all checkpoints, took radio frequencies down on single list. Check A done by me, started putting stuff on the aircraft, boarded and started the [...]

Night before Monday

Well, actually we started seriously planning the route to EDFH before going to Shoreham. Sky deamon, charts, Air Navigation Pro, all employed to get us the least annonying routing. Decided on spending most of the flight routing along French side, not touching the scary Belgian airspace, oh my, chart for it doesn’t have a single [...]

Shoreham transair closed

On Sunday we had a trip from Bournemouth to Shoreham to buy French charts, great flight with my cousines boys (their first flight on light aircraft). Unfortunately Transair was closed, however when we were low down we noticed Dean landing with his family. After not finding any food at the airport we decided to return [...]
