Chasing weather and bad luck

I am due PPL skill test for last month… and it’s annoying. If it is not weathers fault, there is no aircraft, if weather and aircraft are nice, examinator decides that he does not want to fly today…
So I have it scheduled for next weekend… but already can see problems as there are other test [...]

143GB low level

Starting 143GB disk format from controller level , even when it’s 15k RPM is not a good idea, especially at night.

Some more

All that festive time is gone. Finally. Craze at work is also stabilizing.
Some more of Randolph Lalonde
I’ve bought the FirstLight – Omnibus and as Spinwardfringe, it kept me glued to the screen. I really like your work, keep them coming! You can get Freeground on Amazon now.
Some more of coding
I am currently writing brand new [...]

New Dilbert Website

It looks like Dilbert Website went Web 2.0. It’s back in ˝BETAˇ stage.
It’s sad that people think that they need Flash  to display colour cartoon strip on a page.
It’s sad that they used a web mastering company which has no clue on what World Wide Web is like and they are blocking display of content [...]

Busy like in hell

I’m going on holiday at the end of April and everything is hectic now. Loads of projects going live now or when I’m away. There is a big recruitment rush, loads of people start working at our offices around the world. I barely have some time for my self now.

Foresight Linux 2

I have downloaded Foresight Linux 2 with a hope to see some really cool and up to date Linux distribution.
Yes, it has GNOME 2.22 which just came out ( was it yesterday ? ) and yes, this is cool. But if you are matured computer user, you have your favourite tools. Naming a few for [...]

Asterisk Now

Recently I have decided to try out well regarded Asterisk Now distribution. I’ve used 1.0.1 version. I was thinking that it will be well integrated, user friendly Linux distribution for getting your PBX up.
Initially I was happy with what I have found. It’s Asterisk part was just working. Then I have actually started to customize [...]

More on backups

I was bitching about tape backups at one place, now I am moving another place from DVD based backups to tapes.
They ( the second place ) doesn’t use much storage so we can use older and cheaper tape drives from eBay.
I’ve paid £20 for 7 drives! These are not all the latest but included DAT-72 [...]

Tape Backup Solutions

My current arrangement for backup is Dell PowerVault 122T SDLT and Backup Exec 10 on Windows 2000 Server, at least at one place.
The only thing which I can say about it is … unreliable.
Tape library has mechanical problems, build in tape drive has tape errors more often than 3 girls combined periods. And it’s apparently [...]

Power outage

So it looks London is not as power perfect as I initially anticipated.
Today I had no electricity at my place for about 10 hours. The best part is that when I was coming back  home, I have asked one of the workers, when it may be fixed and he said that they still didn’t find [...]
